Last weekends workshop focused on the Pelvic Floor as a way to Conditioning Strength in my core left me with wonderful new sensations of suspension to play with!  The tie in that I’m finding in connecting the Pelvic Floor with Feet is POWER FULL and POWERFUL.

Balance is an essential building block in fitness for women and men of any age, at all stages of life. This workshop explores ways to enhance balance by conditioning feet, ankles, knees, legs and hips to develop a strong, healthy base for the body. Through experiential exploration and constructive play, we improve tone and vitality in muscles and joints, two basic principles of good health and healing. No previous experience necessary. All fitness levels welcomed.

The BALANCE workshop

• teaches the fundamental anatomy of the Base of the Body

• demonstrates how Nia Technique can increase body awareness

• engages body, mind, spirit through adaptive, responsive movement set to music by Afro-Celt

What is Nia Technique?

Nia is getting fit with movement. It is a dynamic cardiovascular workout that draws from martial arts, modern and jazz dance arts, and yoga. Class members move through a choreographed series of specific movements that leave participants feeling recharged, rejuvenated and fully alive. Nia is suitable and adaptable for all levels,

from the person who wants to start moving again to the avid fitness buff.  No previous experience necessary. All fitness levels welcomed.

In the BALANCE workshop learn:

• how flexible hips help relieve lower back pain

• why supple joints improve Equilibrium

• how to stimulate joints for improved Mobility and Stability

• when to apply “The Body’s Way” knowledge to “Your Body’s Way”

• which movements can increase Agility, Flexibility and Strength

What to wear and bring:

Dress comfortably in clothing loose enough to allow vigorous movement of arms and legs. Bring water, your curiosity and courage. Be prepared to sweat. And laugh.

    Lizard Dreaming Hosts Balance Workshop

    Join the “dance warriors” at Lizard Dreaming Yoga Studio this Saturday, June 7, at 2:30 p.m. for a 2-hour Nia workshop dedicated to building balance from the base up.

    “Balance is an essential building block in fitness for women and men of any age, at all stages of life,” said 1st degree Nia Black Belt instructor Julie Wylie, who leads the BALANCE workshop.

    “Flexible hips help relieve lower back pain. Supple joints improve equilibrium. Through choreographed series of specific movements we’ll explore ways to condition feet, ankles, knees, legs and hips to develop a healthy base for the body, while improving muscle tone and joint vitality.”

    Sometimes called “non-impact aerobics,” Nia is a dynamic cardiovascular movement practice that draws from martial arts, modern and jazz dance arts, and yoga. The practice of Nia is about moving energy through the body and being present in the moment through energizing, uplifting activities.

    “It’s simply getting fit through movement,” said Mary Kaye Sawyer-Morse, a certified Nia instructor who leads regular weekly classes at Lizard Dreaming Yoga. “It’s working out without pain and with mind fully engaged.”

    No previous experience is necessary and all levels of fitness are welcome. Nia is danced barefoot to a rousing mix of joyful music by Afro-Celt. Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably in loose clothing that will allow vigorous arm and leg movements.
